Obituary for Robert D Oppici

Robert Dennis Oppici, 81 of Rutherford, NJ passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jersey City, the son of the late John & Eileen Oppici, and the husband of the late Thomasina Parente Oppici.
He graduated from Dickinson HS and enlisted in the Marine Corp. serving from 1954 to 1957. Upon discharge, he received a BS in Marketing/Education from St. Peters Robert Dennis Oppici, 81 of Rutherford, NJ passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jersey City, the son of the late John & Eileen Oppici, and the husband of the late Thomasina Parente Oppici.
He graduated from Dickinson HS and enlisted in the Marine Corp. serving from 1954 to 1957. Upon discharge, he received a BS in Marketing/Education from St. Peters College, and a Masters in Administration from Seton Hall University. He was and educator at Dickinson HS for 38 years serving as Business Dept. Coordinator and on various boards. His love for educating and guiding young adults was evident in his passion for coaching track. He coached at several Jersey City High Schools and was head men’s coach at St. Peters College for 10 years while serving for over 35 years as an NJSIA Track official. Additionally, he volunteered as a member of the Juvenile Intake Unit in Bergen County for many years guiding young adults.
He was communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Rutherford. He was a member in good standing in the Marine Corps. League, Air Land Sea Detachment 710. He was a member of the Masonic Temple 152 and the Knights Templar. His hobbies included boating, fishing, golfing and was an avid reader with a passion for history. He enjoyed spending time at the Jersey shore, fishing trips to the Florida Keys and traveling.
He is survived by his brother John and wife Ann of Lakewood, brother Brian and wife Patricia of Lyndhurst, and pre-deceased by his sister Susan Duff. He leaves his children Robert and wife Julee of Woodbury, CT, Daughter Sharon Oppici of Hazlet, son Thomas of Rutherford and son Joseph and wife Vittoria of Wallington. He leaves his grandchildren Robert, Corrine, Kyle, Shana, Aubree, Caterina, Chiara and many nieces & nephews.
He had a great love for life with the uncanny ability to recall a specific detail of everyone he met. Soft spoken and a good listener he touched the hearts of many. He will truly be missed.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 6:00pm.
Funeral Tuesday 8:30am from the Calhoun – Mania Funeral Home 19 Lincoln Ave. Rutherford, NJ
Followed by a 9:30 Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary 91 Home Ave. Rutherford.
Interment Holy Name Cemetery Jersey City.
