Obituary for Leslie E. Junker

Leslie E. Junker, 93, of Brick passed away Saturday, March 24th, 2018. As a young boy Leslie lived in Hoboken. He was raised by William Freeze and his mother Elizabeth. They moved to Weehawken in 1943. Leslie then entered into the US Army 15th Air Force proudly serving in WWII in North Africa, Italy, Mediterranean Theater of Operation until 1946. He met the love of his life Dorothy and married his sweetheart in St. Mary Church in 1971. They resided in Rutherford (where Dorothy grew up) until 1974. They decided to head to South Jersey and had settled in Point Pleasant Beach for 22 years, then Brielle for the next 17 years. After Brielle in 2013, they’ve continued to live in Brick.
Leslie was a 1954 graduate of Jersey City State Teachers College, earning a BS Degree in Education. He taught Elementary School for 29 years retiring from the Hoboken Board of Ed in 1983. He was a member of the NEA & NJEA. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and listening to Jazz and Swing music.
Leslie will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Dorothy (nee Raabe) of 47 years, his sisters-in-law, Kathleen Miroddi and husband Joseph, Gloria J. Zahorian and husband Dennis, nieces, Kara Offreda and husband, the late John Offreda, Kristin Miroddi, Jessica Zahorian, Erica Zahorian, nephew Tommy Hansberry, great niece and nephew Alexandra and Andrew Offreda. He is predeceased by his sister Anna Arendt.

Family will receive friends Wednesday 10am to 11:30am in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford, followed by 12pm Funeral Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford.
