Obituary for Edward Horatio Fieder

Edward Horatio Fieder, 95, of Lewisville, TX, formerly of Rutherford, NJ, passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, on August 18, 2018.
Ed was born on May 9, 1923, twin to fraternal brother Frederick W Fieder, to parents Irene Levenelm Fieder and Frederick W Fieder II . He was born in Jersey City, NJ but they lived most of their childhood in Nutley, NJ. After their father’s death, the family took in boarders to make ends meet . In 1939 they moved to a larger home in Rutherford, NJ where their mother continued to be successful in running a top notch boarding house. Ed was so very proud of his mother and took care of her until she passed in 1953.
He graduated from Rutherford High School in 1941, as an honor student. After High School he worked as a machinist apprentice with Westinghouse Corporation until he joined the Army in 1943. The War was raging, but instead of being sent to Europe his expertise was needed in a little known Army camp in the mountains of New Mexico – The Manhattan Project! He worked 3 years in 'the town that wasn’t’ while his brother flew bombing missions in the Pacific. The Manhattan Project built the Atomic Bomb that ended World War II. When the war ended, he returned to Rutherford to help his mother and work at Westinghouse. He never lost his love of New Mexico and always dreamed he’d return. In 1959 he married Doris Laureyns. They spent 43 wonderful years together traveling, hosting bible study and youth groups for their church. When the time came that medical issues forced a move from their 3 story home, they fulfilled Ed’s dream and moved to Rio Rancho, NM. They both had retired so now was travel time! Doris’ health continued to decline and travel took a back seat to caring for her more than 12 years until her passing in 2002.
Ed continued to live in Rio Rancho. His twin passed in 2004, but Ed was strong and resilient and determined. His home was his castle! He had too many hobbies to list…but he was a master at building dollhouses, painting, gardening and just about anything he touched. He was also a wonderful Uncle…always welcoming the family for reunions and sight-seeing! He let his great nieces and great nephews swim and play with his toys. He taught them to play the piano!! He took the kids on the roof to teach them about the stars and moon and even to watch fireworks on the 4th of July. He had been a docent at the science and history museum in Albuquerque and a rock hound extraordinaire! He was everyone's favorite Uncle! In 2017, Ed moved to Texas to live with his nephew Fred and his family.
What a wonderful life he shared with us! Thank you Uncle Ed!
