Obituary for Alice Marie McGovern (Gleeson )
Alice Marie McGovern, 86, of Rutherford, passed away Thursday October 31, 2019. Born in Jersey City to Dr. William Gleeson and Mrs. Mildred Gleeson (nee Kelly).
Alice received her undergraduate Degree from Rosemont College in PA, later graduating with a Masters Degree from Yale University.
Alice married John F.A.,Jr and they resided in Rutherford for over 46 years.
Alice was the Rutherford Public Health Nurse from 1978 – 1989. She also had a career in Private Duty Nursing for many years. Alice was on the Welfare Board of Rutherford and involved in the origin of the Kip Senior Center in Rutherford. Alice had started the “Social concerns” and “Bereavement” Programs at Church of Saint Mary and was a member of their Rosary Society. She was a member of Star Fish, and former member of Community of Gods Love.
Alice is pre-deceased by her husband John F.A.,McGovern, Jr.(1995). She will be sadly missed by her devoted and loving children; John F.III & wife Linda, Timothy & wife Jacqui, Michael, Maura Kenny & husband Kevin, Mary Alice Martin, Regina Nagy & husband Sandy, Patricia Tomko & husband Don,
13 grandchildren; Jessica, Sara, Ryan, Shealyn, Lauren, Jack, Michael, Nicholas, Tommy, Paige, Grace, Matthew, great grandchild Mia and siblings, William Gleeson, Mildred Grady & husband Bob. Alice is predeceased by her grandson Glenn.
Family will receive friends Sunday 4-8pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Funeral Monday 9:30am from Funeral Home for 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford.
Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
