Obituary for Angela Rosa "Rosita" Arias (Alfonso)

Angela “Rosita” Arias, passed away at home in North Arlington on Thursday February 17TH, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born to Miguel Alfonso Pozo and Maria De La Caridad Alvarez in Cuba. As their family grew Miguel, (Clavelito) Angela’s Dad found his way to broadcasting and hosted his own show which became wildly revered and became extremely popular on that radio station he had an opportunity to explore his talents as a singer and all around entertainer.

Angela and Roberto met in Santa Clara and developed a passionate relationship and married in 1957, which endured for 60 years. Roberto sadly passed in 2017, they were envied by their friends as the most perfect, loving couple.

They immigrated to the United States from Havana, Cuba, in 1966, and eventually settled in Palm Beach, Florida. Angela had a career as a supervisor for Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield in NYC and stayed with the company for 25 years before retiring.

In her spare time, she wrote stories for a Facebook page called “La Historia De Cuba Hasta El 1959”. With her talented writing skills and the gift to recall information, she was able to recreate stories and timelines depicting life and happenings before 1959, all which took place on this Island country before the Castro regime took hold. Her Facebook page “La Historia De Cuba Hasta El 1959” before 1959, managed to attract an amazing 70 thousand followers who all marveled at her ability to publish such accurate and fascinating details.

Angela was a baseball fan and a huge Yankees fan – she never missed a game. She also enjoyed basketball; LeBron James was her favorite. There is someone else she loved, her precious dog and companion “Zoey” or better known as “Mi Chufi”.

Always appreciating loyalty in her friends, she was also an ardent friend always reciprocating her loyalty to them.

Angela is survived by her devoted children Lisette and her husband Onelio Marrero, Laurie  and her husband Raul Acosta. Her adored grandchildren, Jessica, Lauren, Kristen, Desireé, and her beautiful great-grandchildren Avery,  Emily, Lyla, and Leo.
