Obituary for Anthony Tarantino Jr.
Anthony "Tazz" Tarantino Jr., (aka Tony), 82, of Rutherford, NJ, passed away on December 30, 2021, after a 12-year battle with cancer, of which he fought with strength, like no other.
Tony was born on May 29, 1939, in Jersey City to (predeceased) parents Mary and Anthony Tarantino, who were happily married for 69 years. He was raised in Hudson County and graduated from Emerson High School where he played varsity football #59. He went on to serve in the United States Army Reserve. He was a self-employed entrepreneur, whose primary goal was to protect and provide for his family.
Tony was an avid outdoorsman who loved sports, hunting, fishing, and coaching his children, along with numerous kids in town who loved playing on Mr. T's team! But most of all, he loved and cherished the time he spent with his family.
Tony married Maureen, the love of his life, in 1969, who survives him. They were married for 52 years. He is also survived by his adoring daughter, Gambel Tarantino and her life partner Kevin McCarthy, his loving son and namesake, Anthony Tarantino III, (aka TJ) and his beloved granddaughters, Livia and Brielle Tarantino McCarthy. He is also survived by his loving goddaughter, Emily Pieroni, his nephews, Jeffrey, Robert, Alfred, Craig and his cousin, Anthony Pieroni, who he regarded as his brother, along with countless friends and family who cherished him greatly.
Daddy your love was the greatest love of all. We don't know how we will go on without you, but we do know we have one hell of an angel at our side. RIP dear father.
Family will receive friends Wednesday January 5th from 4:00 to 8:00pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford. Funeral Thursday 10:30am Mass in the Church of Saint Mary, 91 Home Ave., Rutherford. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Fairview.
