Obituary for Carmen Melone

Carmen Melone was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico in 1929 and moved to Jersey City, NJ in 1952.  Carmen married Christopher (Christy) Melone.  Carmen had a number of very interesting jobs throughout her life including making porcelain dolls, crafting musical jewelry boxes, and working for General Pencil Co. in Jersey City. Later in life, Carmen became a dedicated member of The Kip Center and the “Golden Agers” in Rutherford, where she found many loving friends that brought her great joy. Rarely seen without her nails done, Carmen took great pride in continuing to do all the things that brought her joy with the help of her caregiver and friend, Isabelle. We are grateful that she was able to maintain this until her final days.

She was a devoted daughter and sister, a loving wife to Christy, a selfless Mother to Judi and Bernadette, a wonderful Grandmother to Jessica and Hope, a doting Great Grandmother to Eve and Charlie, a warm Mother-In-Law to Guy and Ray, and a loving Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Carmen had a great wit and sense of humor and always shared a smile. She was an excellent cook and was happy to share her recipes. Many family members and friends will miss her weekly phone calls - she always remembered a special date or event and spent much of her time celebrating those she loved.

Carmen was a parishioner at St Mary’s Church in Rutherford.  She was a woman of tremendous faith, and she passed that faith on to her family.  Her belief in God’s protection carried her through numerous illnesses over the course of her life.  Each time hardship found her, she knew that God would get her through it until it was time for Him to call her home. Her Kidney transplant in 1985 was a gift of life that would enable her to see the birth of her great-granddaughters. This is a wonderful testament to the benefits of organ donation and to the skill and dedication of her doctor, Dr. Jeffrey Feldman.

Carmen deeply loved and was loved by many on this earth, and many who have long awaited her on the other side. She will be immeasurably missed, and her smile will light the memories we’ll hold in her absence.

Please, In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations in memory of Carmen to be made to her beloved 55 Kip Center, 55 Kip Avenue Rutherford, NJ 07070. If needed, envelopes will be provided during the family gathering in Church.
