Obituary for Carole Sachs

Carole Virginia Sachs, age 80, a resident of Rutherford, NJ passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thursday February 6th 2020. Carole was born on December 18th 1939 at Margaret Hague Hospital in Jersey City, NJ. She grew up in Jersey City. She also spent time living in California and Florida with her family including her beloved mother and sisters. She was born to Frank Haslett and Jane McNulty and the youngest of four sisters, Eileen, Bernice, and Sheila. Carole was always the adored, baby of the family.

Carole met her beloved late husband, Alfred Sachs Sr. at a dance in Jersey City, NJ. They quickly fell in love, were married, and welcome three beautiful children, Alfred Jr., Virginia, and Joseph. The family lived in various towns in New Jersey including Jersey City, Lyndhurst, West Milford, and Rutherford. Carole spent the majority, 47 years of her life living in Rutherford. She was a well-known figure in town, frequenting the library, many restaurants, and the movie theater.

Carole was many things to many people including a devout Catholic at her parish, St. Mary’s, a loving homemaker and housewife to her beloved late husband Alfred Sachs Sr., a doting mother to her children, Alfred Jr., Virginia, and Joseph, and a loving grandmother to grandchildren, Lauren, Christopher, Joseph, and Steven, and a friend to all. One of her best qualities was her kind, open heart. She charmed everyone she met. From the staff at Rite Aid in town to the doctors she frequently visited, everyone who knew Carole also loved her. She had a witty sense of humor, great conversational skills, and a kindness that lit up a room. She also was always authentically herself. She chose not to re-marry after her beloved late husband passed away saying he was “simply the one and only love of her life. “She told it like it was and always lived her life on her terms.

Carole also had a strong talent for the arts. She was a naturally gifted painter and artist who created numerous works and enjoyed taking art lessons for a good part of her adult life. She loved to do replications of impressionist painters’ works. She brought her creativity and passion for learning into the caretaking of her grandchildren. She was a caretaker, babysitter, and best friend to Lauren and Christopher. She emphasized the importance of education, reading, writing, drawing, animals, volunteer work, faith, and music.

Carole is survived by her son, Alfred Sachs, his wife, Debra, her daughter, Virginia “Ginny,” and her grandchildren, Lauren, Christopher, Joseph, and Steven as well as countless friends and loved ones.

We will always remember Carole, “Nan” to her grandchildren for her positive outlook on life and her strong dedication to her faith. She would want everyone to remember the good times and to pray that we will be reunited with her someday.
