Catherine Montanaro (nee Maitland), age 87, of Waldwick, NJ passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Catherine was born in Brooklyn, NY where she lived most of her life with her sons Arthur and Christopher.  In the year 2000, Catherine decided to make her “Jersey Shore summer home” in Cape May a permanent residence. Cape May by far, was her favorite place, she was always happiest there. She always had a passion for horses and just loved going to the Saratoga racetrack.

One of her other enjoyments was a glass or two of red wine while cooking up her favorite specialty, macaroni, and crab sauce. She was a great cook. Her excellent cooking abilities all came from her sister-in- law Lucy, who was our families “superb Italian cook”. Lucy taught her everything she knew, and our family reaped the benefits of being able to enjoy many fantastic Italian dishes.

Catherine was a huge fan of the Holidays, especially Christmas, when the family came together for a wonderful gathering.

In 2004, Catherine moved to Waldwick, NJ with her son Christopher and his wife Michelle to help look after her as she was experiencing some health issues. She remained with her family until she required more assistance and then moving her to the Atrium at Park Ridge where she was given wonderful, personalized care.

Catherine will be greatly missed by her family, she was known to have a tough exterior at first glance, only to quickly learn she really had a very soft heart. 

She is survived by her loving son Christopher and his wife Michelle, her grandchildren who affectionately referred to as Nana; Vincent & his (longtime) girlfriend Caroline, Christopher & his wife Jillian, and Julia & fiancé Rafael. Catherine is predeceased by her son Arthur (1996).

A private funeral will be scheduled for Catherine at her favorite place, Cape May.
