Obituary for Concetta Conte

Concetta M Conte, “Connie” to her close friends and “Aunt Dolly” to family, passed away on Aug 23, 2021. Connie was born to Italian Immigrant parents on July 29, 1931, in the heart of the depression. She was truly part of “America’s Greatest Generation”.

Connie grew up in Jersey City, NJ. She graduated from Dickinson High School, and after some college, went on to work at Prudential Insurance in Newark. She met and married Bruno Conte in 1952. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage before Bruno was called home in early 2000.

Connie was a proud housewife in the 50’s and 60’s and raised Andrew, a son born in 1956 while living in Paramus, and a daughter Maria born in 1960 after moving to Rutherford, her home for the next 61 years.

Connie re-entered the workforce in the late 60’s as a teacher’s aide in the Rutherford Schools. After working as a secretary for several companies over the next few years, she found a home at Tele-Measurements in Clifton where she was Executive Assistant to the owners and presidents of the company.
Connie was also the recording secretary for “The Radio Club of America”, a wireless communication organization known as the “World’s Oldest Wireless Society”. Connie rose to the level of Fellow in the Radio Club because of her hard work and dedication organizing the annual banquet held at the NYC Athletic Club and its many meetings and functions throughout the year.
Connie was also an avid golfer for many years and played in several women’s leagues mostly run out of Hendricks Golf Club in Belleville, NJ. Her motto was “drive for show, putt for dough”. She didn’t hit them long, but she hit them straight.
Connie attended church at St. Mary’s in Rutherford where she was a fixture at mass every weekend and attended many church and school functions.

Connie is survived by her daughter Maria, son Andrew, daughter-in-law Maryanne, and grandchildren Cara and Amy. Although she is gone, she will be forever in our hearts.

19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Funeral to follow at10:30am for Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford.
