Obituary

Erlinda M. San Diego, 78, of Bayonne passed away Monday May 4, 2020.

Born in Quezon Province, Philippines to Estanislao Marasigan and Aurelia Guevarra Marasigan. She came to the United States back in 1960 to start practicing her profession in the field of Medical Technology. She later returned to the Philippines where she married Efren San Diego and eventually started a family together. Erlinda returned to the United States and continued working and eventually was able to bring her family to the United States in 1987. They ultimately settled in Bayonne, NJ. She worked as a Medical Technologist in Jersey City Medical Center for over 30 years, before retiring in 2015.

To her daughters, she was the best “Inay” (mother) they could ever have. She worked hard most of her life to give them a good future, so much so, that she was actually coerced by her family to finally retire. She always put her children and their needs first before herself and has never changed even though they’re all married with their own families Erlinda was the oldest yet most petite of her sisters. The irony of it is, despite her petite stature, she was an authoritarian, yet they respected her all the more. She was the best older sister to her younger siblings because she always looked after them and made sure that they were taken care of. Erlinda was the kindest, most caring, most generous, and most selfless person to her family, friends, and anyone who had the privilege to have known her. Family gatherings were mostly at her house which she thoroughly enjoyed because she loved to be around her family, always laughing and joking.

She was an active member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ). She was best known for her infamous filipino desserts, especially her sought after “biko”. She very much enjoyed her retirement life by spending time with her children, grandchildren, her beloved sisters, as well as her friends. She had a zest for life and loved gardening, baking, travelling, and going shopping any chance she can get.

Erlinda is predeceased by her husband, Efren San Diego (2005). She will be profoundly missed by her loving and devoted children: Angelica Dapat and husband Lawrence Dapat, Sr., Loralien Sonalan and husband Tom Sonalan, Rosemarie Javier and husband Christian Javier, grandchildren: Lawrence Christopher Dapat, Jr., Lauren Anne Dapat, Luke Alexander Dapat, Rhea Mae San Diego, Liam Ryland Javier, her siblings: Rosalinda Marasigan, Luzviminda Kastury, Zenaida Lopez and Imelda Hussein.

A Private Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
