Obituary for Florence Strubbe Buggle

Florence (Strubbe) Buggle
February 27, 1929 – May 7, 2022

Florence (nee Strubbe) Buggle, 93 of Lyndhurst passed away at her home surrounded by family on Saturday May 7th, 2022. Born to the late A. Henry and Anna (nee Pinnow) Strubbe in East Orange, NJ, Florence was raised in Bloomfield, NJ and was a long-time resident of Lyndhurst, NJ for 68 years.

Florence was predeceased by her loving husband Paul E. of 31 years in 1984, her beloved eight-year-old son Paul W. in 1963 and her dear brother Henry in 2021. Florence is survived by daughters Nancy Wiercinski and her husband Mike, Janet Buggle and partner Mike Haener and Susan Buggle, granddaughters Jennifer O’Neal (Danny), Katie Hernandez (Ricky) and Christine Wiercinski, great-grandsons Bryson and Justus, sister-in-law June Buggle and many nieces.

As a teen, Florence loved working the counter at Strubbe’s Ice Cream and Candy store which her parents founded in 1939 in Bloomfield. She so enjoyed her continued visits to the ice cream parlor (now Holsten’s Brookdale Confectionery) throughout her life where she was always warmly welcomed. In her heart Bloomfield was her hometown, which she referred to as “God’s Country”. She always enjoyed touring family and friends through her favorite spots especially for coffee ice cream sodas and then onto beautiful Brookdale Park.
Florence was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and prided herself as a homemaker caring for and spending time with her family. She loved family vacations at the Lavallette beach and across the country. She took numerous cruises with her husband and friends Eleanor and the late Gus Katsch. Florence had a strong connection with childhood friends, including Laverne Forstenhausler and the late Marion Forstenhausler, throughout her life. Their “club” met every month since high school up until their late 80s. She enjoyed bowling, sewing and needlepoint. Florence adored her & Susan’s Shih Tzu Sandy, who provided years of enjoyment, comfort and companionship.
Florence was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Lyndhurst, member of Sacred Heart Seniors, the Friendship Club and AARP Lyndhurst chapter and served as Second Vice President.

A sweet, beautiful woman, Florence was always smiling and had a positive, cheerful and upbeat disposition. The daughter of German immigrants, she playfully and affectionately called her loved ones “dummkopfs”. She was strong, resilient, understanding, accepting, supportive and open-minded. She leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Wir lieben dich
