Obituary for Franciszka Wojtowicz

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Franciszka (Babcia) Wojtowicz of Jersey City NJ, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who left this world on January 15, 2024 at the age of 93 surrounded by the love of her family.

Franciszka known as Frania was born in Korczow, Poland to Stefan and Franciszka Kochan. Growing up during an era of oppression and strife with so much evil in the world she did not allow that to define her, but instead strengthened her belief that the world needs more kindness. Overtly, sowing the seeds of love, faith, kindness and family first which became the original bricks and mortar of our family’s foundation. She migrated to the United States in 1970 with nothing but faith, resilience, determination and a strong work ethic. Her drive to instill and foster spirituality, morals and values, to her family, gave her the strength to conquer any obstacle she faced.

Throughout the entirety of her life she always endeavored to retain the spirit of youth. To her, dancing was not a hobby but instead a celebration of life, she was the life of the party.

For many life just occurs, but Frania made life happen. She was an avid reader, loved to travel and experience different cultures. She loved the outdoors; swimming, sledding, skiing, walking her dog Cody and gardening. She always had the most beautiful garden, her green thumb was incomparable.

Sundays held a special place in Frania’s heart. Every Sunday after attending church, her home became a sanctuary where family gathered for a delicious lunch. These moments of togetherness were a testament of her commitment to family bonds and the joy she found in their company. You could catch Frania in the kitchen observing and soaking in the beauty of her family.

Seperated in life, Frania once again unified with those lost at the hands of time, finalizing the generational chapter. She is survived by daughter Margot Okula (husband Andrew, grandsons Austin, Mitchell and granddaughter Morgan), son Bogdan Wojtowicz (wife Malgorzata, grandsons Paweł (wife Vanessa), Grzegorz (wife Laurice) and granddaughter Magdalena (fiance Gillian), son Zdzislaw Wojtowicz (wife Henryka, granddaughters Anetka (husband Chris), Elizabeth and Marta (husband James), daughter Teresa Ogonowska (husband Wieslaw, grandson Darek (wife Iza) and granddaughters Dorota (husband Piotr) and Ewa (husband Tony), 20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. What a legacy she leaves behind. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Joseph and Maryann Jakubiec, Teresa and Angelo DiCaro, and Maryann Copija.
