Obituary for Frederick William " Buddy" Breitweiser

Breitweiser
Frederick William (Buddy to his work friends) of Toms River, NJ died at home Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at the age of 78 due to complications from lung cancer. Born on January 28, 1934, Fred had lost his father at a young age and was raised by his mother Mary Mackintosh Breitweiser and lived amongst her siblings and mother in Jersey City, NJ. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force to serve in the Korean War. After his service, Fred returned home where he met his wife of 54 years, Geraldine Alice Kelly. They were married July 13, 1957 and raised a family of four children in Rutherford NJ.

Fred was a loyal employee of Allstate Insurance Company where he was Regional Claims Manager for Bergen and Hudson Counties. After retiring in 1995, he and his wife moved to Toms River, NJ to spend time gardening in the back yard and boating on the Barnegat Bay.
During the winter months, Fred and Gerry lived at their condo in West Palm Beach FL. There, Fred followed his life-long love of horses and attended many equestrian exhibitions.

Fred is survived by his wife, Geraldine, his children, Frederick (Rick) William Breitweiser Jr. of East Rutherford, NJ, Mary Elizabeth Breitweiser of Mountain Lakes, NJ and Christian Wolfgang Breitweiser and his wife Lisa of Essex Fells, NJ. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Grace, Caroline, Ashley, Christian, Noelle and Brooke, a sister, Mary Ellen Drach of Reno, Nevada as well as his Aunt Nina Mackintosh of Melbourne, FL.
Fred was sadly predeceased by his second son, Ronald Michael Breitweiser of Middletown, NJ in 2001.
The family wishes to acknowledge Newark Beth Israel Medical Center’s Heart Transplant Program. Fred was the grateful recipient of a heart transplant in 2005 that gave him additional years with family and friends.
