Obituary for George Scarpa

George Scarpa, 76, of Rutherford, passed away suddenly Friday, July 22, 2022. Born in Passaic to George and Edna (Gingras) Scarpa. When George was young, he and his family settled in Rutherford. He graduated from Rutherford High School in 1965 and was always proud of being on the football team who went on to be the State Champs and inducted into the Rutherford High School Hall of Fame. He also marched with the Garfield Cadets Drum and Bugle Corp in high school. Shortly after high school George entered the United States Air Force in 1966 until 1970. Upon his return, he married his sweetheart Melanie in 1972. Together they enjoyed their two sons, Matt and Nick.

In the 1970’s George owned a successful Limousine company which served the communty for 20+years and garnered an appearance in the tv show “Kojak”. Ultimately, George’s career was with Continental Airlines. He was a certified aviation mechanic at Newark Airport for 20 years, before retiring. Upon his retirement, George became passionate about golf, working around his house, collecting memorabilia and cigars. He was a big fan of the New York Giants, all types of music and TV movies.

 George will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Melanie, his children; Matt and his wife Sharon (Coghan), Nick Scarpa and his wife Christina (Sousa), grandchildren; Adam, Ryan, Connor, Thomas,   Patrick, Keegan, his sister; Georgene D’Amore (Robert) and sister-in-law Marilyn Scarpa (Gerald).   

 Family will receive friends Tuesday 4-8pm at the Calhoun-Mania, 19 Lincoln Ave.,Rutherford.                                                                                                                                                                       Funeral on Wednesday. Gathering 9:00am at Funeral Home for 10am Prayer Service followed by Entombment in Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington
