Obituary for George B. Service, Jr.

George B. Service Jr., recently of St. Michaels, Maryland, formerly of Hackettstown and Rutherford, passed away peacefully on December 01, 2014 at Talbot Hospice House.  He was a resident of Heath Village Community in Hackettstown for 13 years.  He was born in Cynwyd, PA to George B. and Mary Service in 1915. He was 99 years old. 
Mr. Service graduated from Rutherford High School in 1933.  He worked for the United Fruit Company in NYC for 38 years, starting in the accounting department and working his way to VP of Sales, Eastern Division.  Later he was employed by Subler Transfer Co. as Eastern Sales Manager for 10 years.  Mr. Service raised his family in Glen Rock, NJ, and lived there for 50 years.  
Mr. Service enlisted in the Naval Reserve, active duty, in 1941 and proudly served for 4 years during WWII.  He was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and worked in the Naval Intelligence Office, routing war cargo to the Pacific Front. 
George and his wife, Dorothy, were members of All Saints Episcopal Church in Glen Rock where he served as usher and choir member.  He was a volunteer at Kurth Cottage at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, delivered "meals on wheels", and was a member of The Hobbyists hiking group. 
  
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dorothy (nee Lewis) 2012.
George will be deeply missed by his daughters Kathleen, her husband Charles Coffin of Tampa FL, Elizabeth (Betty Ann), her husband David Seabury of St Michaels, MD,  Nancy S. Marosits of Englewood, Colorado, his beautiful grandchildren; Jessica and husband Marc Larochelle, Matthew, Lauren, Chad, Christina and Michael, great-grandson Evan Larochelle, and his sister, Nancy Proctor. He is predeceased by his siblings John B. Service and Mary Ellen Service. 
 
Family will receive friends on Friday, December 5th from 11:30am to1:00pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Followed by private internment in Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst.
