Gladys H. Pratt, 93, formerly of Bayonne, NJ and Danbury CT, passed away on August 28.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 5 at 12 noon at St. James Episcopal Church, 25 West St. in Danbury, CT. A separate burial service will be held at Hillside Cemetery, in Lyndhurst, NJ on Friday, Sept 6 at 11AM. Burial arrangements in NJ are being coordinated by the Collins-Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford, NJ
Gladys was born in Easton, PA on January 31, 1920 and spent her early years in Philipsburg, NJ. Her family moved to Jersey City, NJ during her teens and she graduated from Snyder High School in 1938. She married her high school sweetheart, James H. Pratt, on September 20, 1941; they were married for 37 years.
Gladys was one of the first women to work as a supervisor for the Atlantic Mutual Insurance company in NYC in the 1960s and she continued in that role until her retirement in1980. Gladys was a long time member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Bayonne, NJ serving on the church vestry and as a Sunday school teacher. She was actively involved in the Order of the Eastern Star - Bayonne Chapter # 21 serving as Worthy Matron and in various other offices. She also held state offices with the organization. Gladys especially cherished the lasting friendships she made throughout NJ while serving in the Eastern Star.
Gladys is survived by her son Richard Pratt, his wife Ruth Pratt; her daughter, Patricia Wilber and her husband Russell Wilber; 5 grandsons, who were the loves of her life: Rick Pratt, Jason Pratt, Mike Pratt, Matt Wilber and Mike Wilber; their spouses: Vycki, Enrique, Kristyn and Kelly and 7 great grand children.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband James Pratt, her brother Fredrick and her parents Fred and Helen McCool.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Alzheimer’s Foundation
