Obituary for Irene Nunziato

Irene Nunziato, (nee Burns), 87, a longtime resident of Rutherford passed away Monday, September 6, 2021. Born in Jersey City to Francis and Josephine (nee Donahue) Burns.

As a young woman, Irene met the love of her life Ralph and was married at 22 years old. They lived in Jersey City until settling in Rutherford, where they remained for 58 years raising their 8 children.
Irene always enjoyed being a homemaker for her large family but also had a talent for writing. She spent some time as a writer for the South Bergenite Newspaper and was an avid NYT reader. Irene was a member of the Jr. Woman’s Club, the Kip Senior Center and loved her subscription to the Metropolitan Opera in NYC.
Irene enjoyed traveling, be it to explore a new city or country or watch a child/grandchild play. Her biggest joy in life however, was her family. She was a devoted mother and made a much-treasured chicken soup. She and her husband Ralph adored their family and loved being with their 18 grandchildren, (more recently their great- grandson) at their home in Rutherford and especially in Long Beach Island during summer months. It was a great place to gather and make the best memories for all to share and treasure. Irene was a loving wife and a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be forever missed and never forgotten. She was a special lady.

Irene is predeceased by her son Joseph (1983). She leaves behind her loving husband, Ralph, her children, Ralph and Debbie, Robert and Jen, Paul, Frank and Perri, Linda and Eugene, Mary Beth, Tony and Carolyn, grandchildren; RJ, Brian, Jackie, Gene, Tim, Jenna, Max, Joshua, Joey, Anna, Robert, Charles, Christopher, Remi, Nicholas, Ava, AJ, Carly and great-grandson, RJ, Jr.

Family will receive friends Wednesday 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Funeral Thursday, gathering 9:15am in the Funeral Home for 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, 91 Home Ave., Rutherford, followed by Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the Rutherford First Aid-Ambulance Corps, who often provided mom with loving care.
