Obituary for Irene Smith
Irene Smith,74, of Rutherford, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020. Born in Germany to Peter Polulich & Jospehine (nee Giermak). When Irene was a young child she and her family immigrated to the United States.
Irene and her husband Brian after being married a few years, settled in Rutherford where they remained for 47 years. Together they raised 2 sons while enjoying 51 years of marriage. While raising her family Irene would become the head nurse of Christ Hospital Coronary Unit and later was a teacher for 5 years in the Passaic School system. She was a devoted parishioner of the Church of Saint Mary in Rutherford where she loved decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas & Easter. Irene’s unconditional love was always present for her sons Justin and Ryan. Throughout her lifetime she was a dedicated mother, wife, aunt, nurse, teacher and friend. Irene devoted hours of support and volunteering at “Spectrum for Living” for her son Ryan.
Sweet Irene’s love of life will always be present with fond memories which we will always treasure.

Irene will be missed by her husband Brian Smith, her sons Ryan & Justin & his fiancé Nancy, her siblings Sophia Sander & husband Henry & Annmarie Avella.
Family will receive friends Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford. Funeral gathering Thursday 8:30am from Funeral Home for 9:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford followed by Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, No. Arlington.
