Obituary for James "Jamie " Colaneri

James “Jamie” Colaneri, 78, of Jersey City, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Jamie was born to Anne (nee Balbo) and Joseph G. Colaneri in Jersey City, where he was raised with his eight siblings. He attended St. John the Baptist Grammar School and is a graduate of William L. Dickinson High School. Jamie was an avid bowler in his youth and an aficionado of 1950s music, but above all else, he was a great big brother.

Jamie worked most of his career for the Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation as a specialized train mechanic on the PATH train lines. He was fond of saying that he loved working on the “choo-choos.” Unfortunately, he was also deeply affected by the February 26, 1993, and September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. The sadness of those days stayed with him throughout his life, and he never forgot the many friends and acquaintances, Port Authority employees and travelers alike, who lost their lives.

Jamie will be missed by his beloved son, Michael Colaneri; by his cherished siblings: Mary Ann Mastrolia and her husband Nicholas Sr., Sr. Angela Colaneri, Francine Colaneri and her husband Chet Cardinali, John Colaneri and his wife Ruth Mary; and Germaine Caporino and her husband Rick; by his dear sister-in-law Christina Colaneri; by his cherished nieces and nephews: Joseph Colaneri and his wife Jackie, Christopher Colaneri and his wife Tricia, Joanne Fiume, Nicholas Mastrolia, Jr. and his wife, Michelle, Peter Mastrolia, Justin Cardinali, Cristin Sacca and her husband Ralph, Jarod Caporino and his wife Diana, and Nicole Caporino; and by his 18 treasured grandnieces and grandnephews.

Jamie now joins his beloved parents; his cherished siblings: Joseph P. Colaneri and his wife Angela, Agnes Colaneri, and Dominic Colaneri; and his dear nephew Fred Fiume.

Private services will be held.
