Life Story for Joan LoBello

Our dear mother Joan died peacefully on December 29. She was married for 65 years to Charles (Charlie) LoBello, and together they raised seven children. A homemaker and devoted mother, she always put her children first.
Joan Noonan LoBello, a Hoboken girl of St. Francis parish, was born on November 4, 1934, to John and Rose (Petrigliano) Noonan. She is predeceased by her older brothers, Edward and Thomas Noonan, and by her much beloved younger sister, Marianne Gastelu.

As a young woman, Joan was a talented dancer and performed in many local school and church events in Hoboken. She graduated from Demarest High School in 1952 and entered the convent as a postulant, but luckily for Charlie and her children, she decided on a lay person’s life. When she and Charlie married, they first lived in Jersey City and later settled in Rutherford, NJ, where for the next 40 years she enjoyed the events and activities of their children and friends at the Church and Catholic School of St. Mary. Joan was especially happy to live within walking distance to the Rutherford Public Library as she was an avid reader who easily consumed two to three books a week. She loved traveling and enjoyed retirement years as a snowbird with Charlie in Lehigh Acres, Florida, before moving to North Arlington, NJ.

Her cherished children are John (deceased, 2017) and his wife Karen LoBello of Delray Beach, Florida; MaryJo and Ralph Jerome, New Hope, PA; Charles and Millie LoBello, Rutherford, NJ; JoAnne and Andrew Lemaire, Shohola, PA; Vincent and Majella LoBello, Cedar Knolls, NJ; David and Virginia LoBello, Hillsdale, NJ; and Rose LoBello, Blairstown, NJ. Grandma or Nanny Joan is survived by and deeply loved by her 17 grandchildren: Amanda (and Dermot) Mangan, Kimberly (and Taylor) Butler, Jenna, John, Ariele (and Peter)
Rosch, Sara (and Nicholas) Kelly, Aniella, Francis, LeeAnne Lemaire, AJ (and Rosey) Lemaire, Charlie Joe, Vincent (and Megan), Daniel, Rebecca, Aurora, and Gianna. She was the proud and loving great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She will be remembered dearly by her special cousins and many nieces and nephews, especially the Gastelu clan.

Visitation will be at Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford on Wednesday, January 4, from 3-7 p.m.
