Obituary for John F Tortorello

On Wednesday, August 24th, 2022, John Francis Tortorello passed away at the age of 75.  John had a friendly personality.  He loved people and always had a smile on his face and never knew a stranger.  He loved to spend time conversing with others and could talk your ear off.  He had a style all his own and he owned it.  He paved his own path and enjoyed life!

John worked for the United States Post Office for 38 years and retired in 2009.  Outside of his postal career, he appreciated the arts and enjoyed attending concerts and plays.  He was an artist himself and especially enjoyed using water-colors.  Although he never learned how to play an instrument, he enjoyed tinkering with various instruments.   John was a wealth of knowledge, especially in the areas of history and old movies.   He had common sense and helpfully gave his opinion and advice.   John loved to spend time at the Jersey shore.  He enjoyed  Princeton Football and was their biggest fan (Go Tigers!).  John had a big heart and a generous nature.  He was an original and had a unique sense of humor.  He accepted life’s challenges and made the best of the situation.  John cherished his family the most.

John will be deeply missed by his significant other, Marie Perriello; his brother William and wife Beatriz; niece Suzanne and husband George, nephew William and wife Nancy, niece April, niece Jane Ann and husband Steve; and many great-nephews and great-nieces and cousins.  John is preceded in death by his parents Jane and Angelo and sister Jane Ann.

Friends will be received Wednesday 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.  Mass of Catholic Liturgy will be offered on Thursday at 10:00am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Lyndhurst followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum in North Arlington.

In lieu of flowers:  Please send donations in John Tortorello’s name to The American Cancer Society.
