John M. McCarthy, 70, of Rutherford passed away Sunday June 18, 2023. Born one of 13 children to John and Josephine (nee Alessi) McCarthy. John grew up in Rutherford and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Elementary School and St. Mary’s High School. Early on in his career he worked for 10 years for the Teamsters Union driving a Bus for the Red and Tan company. He then became a Security Guard and ultimately the Lieutenant of Security for Security Rise Club in the Smoke Rise section of Kinnelon for almost 30 years, before retiring. John was a very compassionate and kind man who would do anything for anyone in need, no questions asked. He would sacrifice whatever he could for his family. He was a great father who loved his family. John was a huge baseball fan, especially the NY Yankees and an all-time Star Trek fan. John will be missed by his 3 children, Shawn and wife Dana, Michael, Kathleen, stepson Joey Krupinski and stepdaughter Stacey Karausky, his grandchildren; Liam, Colin, Matthew, Joshua, Amanda and siblings; Miriam, Maria, Rosemary, Teresa, Martin and Chris. Predeceased by his siblings, Joey, Tommy, Patrick, Frankie, Ann, Paul and son Bryan. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford Funeral Thursday morning. All to gather at Funeral Home 10:00AM to depart for 11:00am Graveside Service at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
