Obituary for Jose Emilio Lavin

Jose “Emilio” Lavin, 89, of Union City, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Born in Cuba to Jose and Maria (nee Pomar) Lavin. He entered the United States in 1962 at 30 years old for a better life and new opportunities. He was referred to as “Emilio” by his family and friends. He married his (then) wife Martha Lavin and together they raised their daughter Martha Lavin Bautista.

Emilio was very much a family man, the patriarch of his family. He directed everyone giving advice and guidance. He adored his grandchildren, Christian and Sophia.

Emilio went for walks every day for quiet time and to stay in shape. Every Friday he would meet his brothers for lunch at their favorite restaurant in Newark. He also had a coffee group of close friends who would meet daily at McDonalds in Union City. He was a good son who always visited the cemetery to see his parents. He was the “number one” fan of his grandson’s baseball games and granddaughter’s Soccer games.

Emilio will be deeply missed by his devoted daughter Martha & son-in-law Franklin, his loving grandchildren, Christian and Sophia and brother Jose Maria, and many nieces & nephews.
He is predeceased by his brothers Pacomio and Gerardo.

Family will receive friends Thursday 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave, Rutherford, NJ. Funeral Friday 8:30am in Funeral Home for 9:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford, followed by Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
