Obituary for Josephine Gonska (Perrella )

Josephine Gonska, 64, of Rutherford, NJ departed this world on Thursday, March 24, 2022. She was the eldest of four children born to Giacomo and Rose (nee Gargiulo) Perrella in Jersey City, NJ.

A pioneer in her field of study, Josephine graduated from NJIT in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Josephine was employed as a Mechanical Engineer within the Aero Space division at Bendix Corporation. She served first as Treasurer and then President for the Rutherford School District PTA for many years and was nominated a lifetime PTA member. She and her partner of nearly 40 years, Gary, traveled the world together. A self-taught “chef extraordinaire', Josephine enjoyed cooking for her friends and family and baking with her children and grandchildren. An avid supporter of the arts and sciences, she also loved gardening, dancing, swimming, sewing and taking long walks on the beach both at the shore in NJ and at their family home in Bradenton, FL. A cherished “mom” and “grandma” to all who entered her home, she was often know to “pop on by” for a hot cup of coffee and a kind word. The most precious moments for Josephine were spent with her family. She dearly loved each of them while adoring her three grandchildren.

The loss of Josephine will be deeply felt by so many who were lucky enough know her and her passing has left an irreparable hole in the hearts of her close and beloved family.

Josephine is predeceased by her parents, Giacomo and Rose Perrella.
She leaves behind her devoted husband Gary, her children; Jessica Weinbrecht and husband Erik, Rachael Carroll and husband Michael, Alysia Gomez and husband Oscar; grandchildren, Maddalyn, Michelina, and Calliope; and her three siblings, Denise Love-Nagel, Michele Perrella, and Michael Perrella.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 29 from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
All to gather Wednesday, March 30 at the Funeral Home at 10am for an 11:00am Prayer Service.
