Obituary for Kenneth F. Nicosia
It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth F. Nicosia of Nutley, NJ announces his sudden passing on Sept 24, 2020, at the age of 62. He was born Oct 9, 1957, in Newark, NJ.
Ken grew up in Nutley but lived half of his adult life in Rutherford where he and his wife Laura raised their son, Christian. Ken was a loving and devoted father. He was very active in his son's youth sports as a fan and assistant coach. Most recently they enjoyed playing rounds of golf together.
Ken's family and friends knew him as a kind, mild-mannered person, who was well-read and who never spoke ill of anyone. Without hesitation, Ken never said no to anyone who needed a helping hand. He was also known for his long, entertaining stories about his adventures and explanations of any given topic. Ken was also a big fan of music, movies, and loved a great joke.
Ken's passion for skiing led him to travel the world with Lange Ski Boots as the Racing Coordinator for the U.S. and Canadian ski teams for World Cup events and the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. He went on to work in the ski industry for many years, followed by sales in the printing business, food purveying, and most recently the automobile industry.
Ken was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary Nicosia and his brother Leonard. He leaves behind his wife Laura (nee Calamari) Nicosia, his son Christian John Nicosia, his sister Margaret (nee Nicosia) Peterson and her husband Gary Sr., nephews and nieces Gary Peterson, Jr. and wife Alba, their daughter Carly, Dr. Douglas Peterson and wife Debbie and their children, Ty and Jamie, his sister-in-law Carol D. Calamari, and sister-in-law Jackie Calamari-Davis and her husband Chris Davis, and many cousins.
Family will receive friends Wednesday from 3pm to 7pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford, NJ.
Funeral Mass Thursday 9:30am from Funeral Home for 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in St. Mary’s Church, 17 Monsignor Owens Place, Nutley.
