Obituary for Lawrence J Steimel

Steimel

Lawrence J. Steimel Sr. (a/k/a Larry Good Guy), 78 of Cape Coral Florida, formerly of Little Ferry NJ born 7/15/1934 in NYC died 12/1/12. He died without pain in the comfort of his family’s home in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ with his loving children and furry companion little Sally by his side. He was the proud and loving father of six children, grandfather of 17 grandchildren, great grand father of 15; He was the loving son of Elizabeth and Henry Steimel, the youngest of nine and loving brother of eight brothers and sisters all of whom predeceased him. In life he was proud of his world travels, serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was most thankful to the VA for excellent care they always provided to him. He was the best son, brother, husband, father, and father in-law, grandfather and friend anyone could ever ask for. He loved his family, poetry and music.

He met with Doctors early this year and knew his life was coming to an end from lung cancer. He was a non-smoker. When they explained medical options, he put his fate in Gods hands. He lived the last years of his life always in his children’s care. Remarkably his last year he never complained or moaned of pain. We know God let him know ahead of time, so we would all be prepared. Dad knew he lived a good life, had no regrets or fears. He knew heaven was waiting where all his loved ones that passed before him would be near. He’d give a beautiful smile when we mentioned mom was waiting to hold his hand and sing her favorite song “My Man”. How they loved to hold hands and listen to music. Mom was the love of his life. He finished his business here and with a big kiss and a smile he said its time for me to go and said his good-byes. His courage, optimism open heart, prayers and great big smile warmed and allayed everyone he ever met.

He is survived and will be dearly missed by his children and their spouses Catherine and Steve Nelson, Karen and Richard Jensen, Lawrence J. Steimel Jr and his fiancé Sulbije Koleci., Raymond and Debbie Steimel, 16 grand children and 15 great grand children. His loving wife, Dolores M. Steimel, Daughter Denise Steimel, Son Henry J. Steimel and Grandson Raymond M. Steimel, Jr, predeceased him.
