Louis J  Arnold
ARNOLD Louis J. 82, a life long resident of Rutherford passed on July 11, 2009 He was a Captain of the Rutherford Police Dept. beginning his career as patrolmen on August 1, 1950 and by August 16, 1968 earned the rank of Captain until retiring in Oct. 1990, having served the township of Rutherford for 40 years. Louis served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1947 and then joined the US Coast Guard and maintained his status from 1954 to 1986. He served as Lt.Commander in the Coast Guard and held the position as Commander of Governor's Island for 32 years. He was the Past Pres. Coast Guard Chapter16 of NJ Reserve Officers Ass. Of the US ., Held four commands in the US Coast Guard Reserve, one of which was Reserve Captain of the Port of NY; Past. Pres. & State Delegate of PBA Local 26; Member of the FBI National Academy Ass. (92nd.Session). Member of the Rutgers University Alumni; Twice Commander of the American Legion Post 109; Twice Pres. of the Lions Club of Rutherford. He was the founding member of the Rutherford High School Hall of Fame, member of PBA Local 300 and of the FOP of NJ Detectives, and proud member of the NRA. Louis is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Phyllis (nee Peters), His devoted children, Joanne Henkelman; Patricia Piasecki and husband Michael; Barbara Arnold; Louis P. and his wife Catherine; Robert C. and his wife Renee. He also leaves his adored grandchildren, William, Jessica, Michael, Brittany, Ryan, Alexandra, James, Rebecca, Kelly and Bobbi. and his great grandchildren Camryn and Alyse. Louis is also survived by his brother Vincent, Eugene, and predeceased by his sisters Marie, Sheila, his brothers the late Richard, Frank, Robert and Thomas. Funeral Wednesday (notice of time to follow) at Collins Calhoun Funeral Home 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford, followed by a morning Mass of Christian Liturgy in St. Mary's RC Church, Rutherford. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, No. Arlington. The Family will receive friends Tuesday 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Rutherford PBA, Rutherford Ambulance Corps.
