Obituary for
Louis V. Bonora,Sr.
Louis V. Bonora, 94, a life long resident of Rutherford, passed away January 30th, 2014. Born in Brooklyn, NY to John and Josephine (nee Scala) Bonora in 1919.
He was a member of the Rutherford VFW Post 227 and a parishioner of the Church of Saint Mary in Rutherford.
He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII from 1941 to 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart metal. Louis was employed by the US Treasury Department as a US Customs Inspector in Port Newark, where he was known to his friends and co-workers as “Louie”. After a successful and gratifying career of 30 years, he retired in 1972.
Louis is predeceased by his wife Louise (nee Alesci) 2007. He is survived by his children, Louis V. Bonora Jr. and his wife Linda, Angelo Bonora and his wife Virginia, Sara and her husband Donald Regina, his cherished grandchildren: Rachel, Michelle, Kristin, Rebecca, Stephen, Michael, Robert, Lauren and Lisa, whom all referred to him with much love as "Pop Pop" or "Grandpa", his Great grandchildren: Christopher, Mackenzie, the twins Sean and Dominick, Livi, Lucas, and Austin. He is predeceased by his bothers the late Stephen Bonora and Joseph Bonora. Louis was affectionately given the nickname “Barney” by his niece, Geraldine Lipari.
Funeral Saturday 8:15am from Collins Calhoun Funeral Home for 9:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in The Church of Saint Mary, 91 Home Avenue, Rutherford.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington.
Family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday January 31st from 4:00pm to 8:00 pm.
