Lt. Col.   Donald E.  Lundberg

Lt. Col. Donald E.Lundberg, 91, resident of Rutherford for 47 years, passed away Saturday, July 9th, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born in Mt. Jewett, PA. in 1925 to Bert and Emelia Lundberg.
Donald proudly served as a Lt. Colonel for the United States Air Force. He entered the Service in 1944; he belonged to the 20th Air Force, 58th Bomb Wing, 793rd Squadron & 468th Bomb Group, his Unit was stationed in Tinian Islands in 1945. His awards and decorations were Air Offensive Japan, Western Pacific Campaign, China Offensive (Battle Stars), American Campaign Medal, Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Air Medal, Philippine Independence- NJ Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a navigator on board the B-29 Dragon Lady. After Donald’s impressive Military career he went to NYU where he achieved a Master’s Degree in Banking & Finance. He was employed with MetLife in NYC from 1946 to 1988 as the Staff Mgr. of Group National Accounts. He was married to the love of his life Lillian for 58 years, together they raised their two children in Rutherford where he remained until 2015. Some of his many accomplishments included Grand Marshal of the Rutherford Memorial Day Parade, he was North Arlington Elks #1992 “Man of the Year”, a member of the Rutherford American Legion Post 109, Treasurer for the “Old Guard” Club and one of the co-founders of the New England Air Museum Restoration B-29 “Jacks Hack”. Don’s favorite title of all was “Grandpa”.
He never missed an opportunity to watch his grandchildren play sports. He had a magnetic personality; to know him was to love him.
Donald will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Lillian (nee Kuchler), his adoring children, Susan Garbe & husband Ted, Janice Guzman & husband Ray and his beautiful grandchildren, Scott, Lauren, Emma and Alex. He is predeceased by his siblings, Helen Ehnat, Gladys Kaufmann, Bert Lundberg, Paul Lundberg and Dorothy Bender.

Funeral will be held on Tuesday, gathering 10am for 10:30 Prayer Service in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst, Rev. Jeffrey Walters, officiating.

Family will receive friends Monday 5 to 9pm
Donations may be made to Tomorrow's Children Fund
