Obituary for Margaret Ellen "Peggy" Byrne

Margaret Ellen Byrne, also known as Peggy, peacefully passed away on September 7, 2023, in Englewood, NJ, at the age of 90. Born on October 8, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, Margaret was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend.

Peggy lived her life like few others. Having had Spiritual Awakening in 1973, she dedicated her time and energy to Alcoholics Anonymous, eventually co-founding The Atlantic Group in New York City. A life of Unity, Recovery and Service led to her celebrating 50 years of sobriety in March of this year. Peggy Byrne helped save lives. That is her legacy.

Her career as an Accountant saw her work with Movie and Television Producers, namely Tulchin Studios with her friend Hal. She also worked for the Archdiocese of New York, where her meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic made her an invaluable asset to the organization. It helped that she was a devout Catholic and actively participated in the faith community.

As a young woman, she did some print modeling for some rather large Ad campaigns, and when finally discovered, was chosen to be New York City’s MISS SUBWAY of March 1952. To all who knew her in life, she was always a star.

She is survived by her nephew Jimmy Noonan, her nieces Barbara Noonan, Peggy Noonan, Kathleen Scarpelli and husband Joe, Patty Noonan and Dorian Noonan and husband Dean. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jane Noonan, and her Brothers John Byrne and Patrick Byrne.

The family will receive friends Saturday September 9th from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.  Prayer Service at the Funeral Home at 4:00pm, the Church of Saint Mary, Officiating.  Private Cremation.
