Distinguished Educator

Margaret (Peggy) Conway of Rutherford, New Jersey died peacefully on October 16,2015 after a brief illness. She was predeceased in death by her loving husband, Dr. Patrick Conway in 1978.

Margaret was born in New York City in 1926, and graduated from Cathedral High School, Hunter College, and New York University, where she received he Doctoral l Degree in applied mathematics, ABD.

Margaret was an educator and scholar of applies mathematics, and was an adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford and Teaneck, New Jersey campuses. She also taught high school at Essex Catholic High School in Newark, New Jersey, beginning in 1968, where she was the first female teacher at an all-boys Catholic High School. A teacher of College AP calculus, she was also the moderator of the ski club at the school.

Margaret moved from New York City to Rutherford in the early nineteen fifties, when her husband was appointed Professor at the founding campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, and remained a lifelong resident.

She is survived by her sons, Kevin, of Rutherford and Cornwall, Connecticut, and Dennis of Rutherford and Valdosta, Georgia. She is also survived by a sister, Eileen Jones, of Scarsdale, New York, and predeceased by a brother, Joseph Hargadon FSC, of Riverdale, New York, and a sister Barbara Kepesky, of Russellville, Arkansas.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Rutherford, the Rutherford Women's College Club, the Rutherford Polymathic Club, and the Rosary Altar Society of St. Mary's Church. She and her husband Patrick were former members of the Montclair Country Club.

Margaret spent most summers since 1968 at her home in Hemlock Farms in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania where she enjoyed golf, tennis, and skiing. She was a former member of the Lords Valley Country Club there.

An inquisitive and exploring person by nature, she toured every European country over her life with her husband and sons, and much of the United States as well. Only a year ago found her walking hills in Ireland at the property of her husband's relatives. A lover of flora and fauna; four dogs, three cats, and two rabbits were among her family's pets in Rutherford and Hemlock Farms.

Viewing will be at Calhoun Mania Funeral Home, Rutherford, New Jersey on Monday and Tuesday, October 19 and 20, from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary's Church, Rutherford at 9:30am on Wednesday, October 21 and interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey. Margaret loved flowers, and they are appreciated.
