Obituary for Marie Agnes Trosky

Marie passed from this earthly life on July 31, 2021surrounded by her loving family at her home in Bedminster NJ after a long illness of several months.
Marie was a product of downtown Jersey City, born in a tenement building on Railroad Avenue to George and Clara Nies. As a young child, she moved with her older sister Elizabeth and parents to a home on Wayne Street. Marie was educated at St. Aedan’s School and Lincoln High School. After graduation she felt a calling to enter the nursing profession and was the first member of her family to pursue higher education. She attended the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in the Jersey City and earned her RN. She worked at St. Francis Hospital as well as at Christ Hospital where she would meet her future husband, John F. Trosky who was a patient.
Marie and John became fast friends and fell deeply in love. They married in January of 1948 and had their first child, a boy, in 1950 followed by two daughters. Marie loved her children and gave up her nursing career to remain at home to raise them and provide them with the best start possible in life. She returned to the nursing profession later in life and attended college in midlife to earn her BSN. She worked at the Lutheran Home & Hospital until both she and John retired. They moved to Tom’s River in 1994 where she was active with Deborah Hospital and did charity work with several animal welfare organizations. She was a regular parishioner at St Joseph’s RC Church.
She is survived by her children, John A. Trosky and spouse Rosemary F. Caulk, Janet M. Grisi and spouse Thomas, Lynn Trosky and partner Lisa Stiff with grandchild, Olan E. Y. Trosky. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years and sister Elizabeth.

There will be a private graveside service on August 4 at10:00AM at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington NJ.

In one of her last wishes, Marie requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to either the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, P. O. Box 301 Garrison NY 10524 or to the St. Jude Shrine & Hospital, 512 West Saratoga St. Baltimore MD 21201
