Obituary for Mary Baia

Mary Baia 88 of Rutherford, N.J. passed away on October 17, 2023.  She was born February 9, 1935 in Bayonne, N.J. to Joseph and Rose Notarmaso (nee Mastromonaco).

Mary grew up in Jersey City and graduated from Dickinson High School.  Mary married the love of her life Perry P. on April 7, 1956.  Together they raised 3 children in Jersey City and Rutherford.

Mary was a parishioner of St. Mary’s, Rutherford, and St. Anne’s, Jersey City.  Mary was a homemaker as well as having worked at Forrest Group, Rutherford, Food Oils Co., Union School Rutherford, Pasquin Ford 3 County Volkswagen, Batz Bakery and Postal Couriers.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed the Rutherford Kip Center, vacationing at the Villa Romas Resort, her bowling team, Rutherford Recreation, volleyball with the “Mixed Nuts” team, Annual K Realty get togethers, Uno card parties and mingling with North St., Carlton Pl., & Zabriskie Street neighbors.  Mary was an excellent cook, decorator, dancer and was always dressed beautifully. 

Mary is predeceased by her husband Perry P., her parents, Joseph & Rose and siblings, Carmella (Walter) Finley, Anthony (Laure') Notarmaso, Ralph Notarmaso and wife Anna, her mother & father in law, Catherine & Ernest Baia and sister in law Rosemarie Dougherty and cousins Rita and Frankie Baran.

Mary is survived by children Perry M., Steve and wife Dianne, Janine Kolodinsky & husband Greg, her grandchildren, Gregory & fiancée Nicolette, Kyle, Lillian, Matthew Chernego & wife Alyssa, Alexandra Sawyer & husband Todd, great-grandchildren, Abigail, Benjamin, Nora, brother-in-law, Jimmy Dougherty, also surviving by nieces & nephews.

Family will receive family and friends Sunday October 29 from 12:00 – 3:00pm at Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford, N.J. Funeral Monday gathering in the funeral home 9:30am for a 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy at the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford, N.J. Entombment Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
