Mary Ann Mastrolia, loving and devoted wife, caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 25, 2022. She died peacefully at her home in Rutherford, New Jersey, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Ann was born to Anne and Joseph Colaneri in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she was raised with her eight siblings. She attended St. John the Baptist Grammar School in Jersey City and was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School in Union City.
Mary Ann was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Rutherford. She was a Eucharistic Minister, a Rosarian, and a frequent lector at mass. She was active in both the funeral and baptism ministries, and for decades, she sewed and hand-embroidered baptismal bibs for recipients of the sacrament. She was particularly devoted to Saint Anthony, and for many years, hosted mass and a celebration in her backyard on his feast day. Mary Ann enjoyed cooking and baking for family, friends, and church functions, and made her famous meatballs by the hundreds. Fortunately for those she has left behind, her recipe lives on!
Mary Ann will be missed beyond measure by her devoted and cherished husband of 59 years, Nicholas Sr.; by her beloved children, Joanne Fiume, Nicholas Mastrolia, Jr., and his wife, Michele, and Peter Mastrolia; by her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Alyssa Fiume and her partner, Tim Witzal, Anthony Fiume and his wife, Melissa, Andrew Fiume, Alex Fiume, Nicholas Mastrolia III, Matthew Mastrolia, and Matt Mastrolia; by her darling honorary grandchildren, Chloe Hecking, Elena Struble and Siena Struble; by her dear siblings, Sr. Angela Colaneri (her twin), Francine Colaneri and her husband Chet Cardinali, John Colaneri and his wife Ruth Mary; and Germaine Caporino and her husband Rick; by her dear sisters-in-law Annette Barbalinardo, Margaret Colaneri, and Christina Colaneri; by her treasured nieces and nephews: Joseph Colaneri and his wife Jackie, Christopher Colaneri and his wife Tricia, Michael Colaneri, Justin Cardinali, Cristin Sacca and her husband Ralph, Jarod Caporino and his wife Diana, and Nicole Caporino; and by her 11 precious grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mary Ann now joins her cherished parents; her beloved son-in-law, Alfred M. Fiume; and her dear siblings: Joseph P. Colaneri and his wife Angela, James Colaneri, Agnes Colaneri, and Dominick Colaneri.
We will love and miss Mary Ann always. May God grant her a special place in heaven where she can watch over us. Now we pray for her the prayer her mother said every night at bedtime with her children:
Bring her far from the shadow of exile to the bright home in
heaven, where, we trust, Thou and Thy Blessed Mother
have woven for her a crown of unfading bliss.
Mary Ann will be waked from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home in Rutherford, New Jersey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s Church in Rutherford at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022, followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, New Jersey.
