Michael L. age 83, of Long Branch, NJ passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. Mr. Palughi was born in Jersey City, NJ to Louis & Nettie (nee Gruccio) Palughi. He was a Fire Fighter employed by the City of Jersey City for over 28 years. Michael was the Past President of the Jersey City Fire Local, he was the Head of AARP, a member of the ELKS, VFW and IAMA, Vice President of the Pavillion Building Association, a Representative for the Council on Aging, Union Teamster, Real Estate Agent for 28 years, an usher in Our Lady Star of the Sea - Long Branch and was the Past Councilman for Long Branch. Michael is survived by his wife Marie (nee Olszewski), sons Mark Palughi and his wife Elaine and Michael Palughi, daughter Michele Belloni and her husband John, 6 grandchildren; James, Brianne, Michael, Toni, Michael and John Michael and 1 great grandson James Rocco. He is also survived by four brothers; Louis, Joseph, Anthony and James and his sister Mary Lou. Friends will be received on Monday, June 22, 2009 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm @ Collins-Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, 9:30 am @ St. Mary R.C. Church, Rutherford. Interment to follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
