Patricia Ann Stevens was born May 6, 1928 in Carlisle, PA to Herbert and Catherine (Wilson) Smith. With her father an entomologist, taking a new position for the USDA, she moved to Hyeres, France at 6 months of age with her sister, Janet. Patsy mother died during a child birth, her father remarried to Jean Wilson (Patsy’s aunt), and gave birth to Patsy’s second sister, Lucienne. In 1939, with the invasion of Germany into France Patsy’s family moved to Rutherford, NJ, graduate from Rutherford High School in 1947 and married Frank W. Stevens in December 22, 1949, had two sons (Jeff and Mark), and remained in Rutherford until moving to Iowa City, IA in 2004. Pat and Frank owned the Stevens Art Center (opened in 1972); that included framing, sale of supplies and housed an art gallery. Following Frank’s passing in 1985 Pat maintained running of the store until 2003. Both Pat and Frank were artist and very active in local art events (showing and judging), members were of several art affiliations. Pat obtained a bachelor and master (in modern art) degree. Pat became an avid photographer, entering shows, enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, Russia and North and South America and presenting slide shows on her travels, gardening, she took part in several Earthwatch Expedition digs on Mayan Indian Ruins in South America. Pat also enjoyed spending time at her NJ shore bungalow from 1960 until the 2000’s.

Survived by her son Jeff and his wife Judy and their son Jared; her sister Janet and recently deceased husband Jean Jacque and their children Catherine, Alan, and Henry and their families; her sister Lucienne and her husband Charles and their children Charles, Karen, Elizabeth and James and their families; and her sister-in-law Merrily and her children John and Jeanette and their families. She was predeceased by her son Mark H. Stevens (1976).


Family and friends will be received Friday 9:00 to 11:30AM with prayer service by Rev. Peter Wilkinson in the Collins Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford,

Interment: Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst
