Obituary for Pauline A Bertone

BERTONE
Pauline Ann (nee LiCalsi) 82, of Rutherford, joined the angel’s choir on November 21, 2011. Born in North Bergen, Pauline resided in Rutherford for over 50 years. Pauline is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Andrew E. Bertone, her five loving children, Pamela Steele, husband Robert, Cynthia Frazier, husband Paul, Andrew Bertone, wife Mary Kate, Mary Alice Rogoff, husband Marc, and Lisa Wheeler, husband Brian. Grandma will be missed by her 11 grandchildren, Kristina Evans, husband Chris, Anthony, Greyson, Cole, Jordan, Bridget, Nicholas, Michelle, Shayna, Martin, and Nina-Marie. Pauline was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Rosaria (Sadie) LiCalsi of North Bergen.

Pauline was a proud and loyal graduate of Douglass College, class of 1950 with a B.S. degree in Bacteriology. Upon graduation, she worked for Hoffman LaRoche, and later, at Wedgewood China. She was a founding member of the Rutherford Community Blood Bank, an active volunteer with Rutherford Red Cross and a member of the Rosary Society. Education was always important to Pauline, she was active with Rutherford schools and St. Mary’s school. She was the enthusiastic fund-raising chair for her Douglass College “class of 1950”, fiftieth reunion celebration.

Pauline had a passion for music and the St. Mary’s Rutherford Choir will miss her sweet soprano. She was also a member of the NJSO Community Chorus.

A devoted wife, Pauline was first lady to Andrew’s mayoral tenure and always an active partner in his many organizations, such as Rutherford UNICO and the Republican Club. Pauline cherished time shared with her children and grandchildren and was a special part of each of their lives. She especially enjoyed her lifelong friendships and happy memories with her Bridge Club and Gourmet Club groups. In retirement, Pauline and Andrew enjoyed traveling, especially to Italy.

On Friday, November 25, the family will receive visitors at Collins Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue in Rutherford from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 26, 10am, at Sacred Heart Church in Lyndhurst, NJ. Entombment: Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington
