Philip LaPorta, 74, of Rutherford, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Ocean County Medical Center, in Brick, New Jersey.
He was born to Rosalie LaPorta, nee Calcaterra, and Dominick LaPorta, on April 11, 1936 at Beth Israel Medical Center in Passaic, New Jersey. He spent his childhood in Clifton, New Jersey, and moved to Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey where he was an all state running back for the Hasbrouck Heights football team. He graduated from Hasbrouck Heights High School in 1955 and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, graduating in 1960.
During his lifetime he was a sales manager for Gallo wines, salesman for Nozaki Associates, a manager for Signal Stat Corporation in Eatontown, New Jersey, owned and operated several Pizza Parlors including Donna Marie's Italian Villa in North Arlington, New Jersey, he became an entrepeneur specializing in flea markets around the state of New Jersey, most notably the Route 3 Flea Market from 1977 through 1982.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maureen LaPorta, nee Matteo, brother Anthony LaPorta of Baltimore, Maryland, and wonderfull children: Donna LaPorta and husband Joseph Bonanno; Phillip LaPorta and his wife Laurel; David LaPorta and his wife Kelly. He is also survived by his two loving grandchildren Joseph Bonanno and Paris Lilly LaPorta.
Family will receive friends Sunday 3:00 to 7:00pm in the Collins-Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford, NJ. Funeral on Monday 10:00am with a 11:00am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary, Rutherford. Cremation Private
