Phyllis Haddow Petrie of Rutherford went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 25, 2020. Her faith, family and friends meant everything to her and she will be dearly missed.
The wife of the late Ferdinand R. Petrie, who passed away in 2007, she was born in McKeesport, PA on February 22, 1925 to John Falconer and Miriam (nee Reinoehl) Haddow.
After high school in Steubenville, Ohio, Phyllis moved to New Jersey and met and married Ferdinand, and they lived in the Rutherford home he grew up in as they raised their family. Ferd was a gifted, professional artist and they spent 25 summers in Rockport, MA operating the F.R. Petrie Gallery, a favorite of locals and tourists, alike. Ferd’s artwork is displayed in galleries and private collections all over the world.
Phyllis was an excellent cook and gracious hostess. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary or special occasion of family and friends. As a longtime member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Montclair, NJ, she was a devoted "shepherd" to many in the congregation.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, sister Jean, and brother-in-law Howard.
She will be lovingly missed by her son David Petrie (Sue), daughter Beth Leggett (Paul), grandchildren Elisabeth Richards (Brad), Gwendolyn Blackman (Justin), James Leggett, Rachel Petrie (fiancé Brad), Matthew Petrie, Timothy Petrie, great-grandchildren Silas & Eli Richards, Hazel, Faye & Dante Blackman, nieces Alison Heinzel, Miriam Smith, Marilyn Loych and extended family and friends.
Private Interment will be held in Hillside Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
PS: We are fortunate to have acquired a beautiful artwork piece from Ferdinand several years ago, displayed in our Funeral Home.
