Obituary for Pietro Lafragola

Pietro Lafragola, 86, of North Arlington, NJ passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning, November 29, 2022.

He was born in Naples, Italy to the late Mauro & Margherita (nee Fishietti) Lafragola.  Pietro was one of 7 children, 6 of whom remained in Italy: Antonio, Salvatore, Lucia and Rosetta and the late Frank and late Vincenzo. When his father passed unexpectedly at a young age, Pietro and his older brother Antonio needed to become the heads of the household to support his mother and younger siblings at the early age of 19 and 20 respectfully.

In his homeland of Italy, Pietro was a shoemaker, where he was involved from the design and hand made construction, to the beautiful, finished product . Frequenting the stunning beaches of Italy and fishing were two of his favorite past times. Everyone that knew Pietro knew that he loved pasta!  One of his favorite meals was capellini pasta with seafood.  He was an avid soccer fan who enjoyed both attending live soccer games in Naples, as well as, watching them on TV.  It was no surprise that his favorite team was his home town team, Naples. He also enjoyed dancing, especially the tango, with his wife, Luisa. It was in Naples where he learned the art of making wine, something he enjoyed doing his whole life.

At the young age of 36, Pietro moved with his family, wife Luisa and son Mauro, immigrating to the United States, in 1973.  It was also in 1973 that they welcomed their daughter, Margherita, to the family. Pietro and his family were proud to become US citizens in 1975.  They settled in Jersey City for 42 years prior to moving to their home in North Arlington.  Pietro was employed by Mullers Pasta Factory as a pasta maker, located in Jersey City.  He remained with Mullers for 26 years before he retired at the age of 62.  It was the simple things in life that made Pietro his happiest; spending time with his family and grand children, who were his pride and joy, eating his wife's delicious home made meals, and settling down to a game or two of scopa with friends and family.

Pietro will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Luisa (nee D’Amato), his loving son Mauro and his wife Ann, and his loving daughter Margherita Cardello and her husband David, along with his grandchildren Daniel, Gianluca and Valentina.
