Obituary for Randall David "Scotty" Mackie

Randall David "Scotty"  Mackie
Randall D. Mackie,. " Scotty" 80 of Rutherford died on October 22, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Scotty was born in Glasgow, Scotland and lived in Rutherford for 60 years. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He served, as Commander for the Rutherford VFW Post # 227. He was a Volunteer Fireman, an Award winning EMT and received many citations for his life saving efforts during his career. Scotty was employed by Hoffman LaRoche in Nutley for 25 yrs as a Material Handler Specialist and retired in 1994. He also was Past Pres. of the Roche Retiree Club and Past Pres. of the HLR Ski Club. He was a prolific actor and vocalist for the Roche Players, having lead or supporting roles in many plays, such as South Pacific, 42nd.St, Guys & Dolls, Brigadoon and Carousal, to name a few. He also did voice over work for Disney. He held memberships in a Motorcycle Club, Ran for Rutherford Councilman, the School Board in the 1990's and was a member of the Rutherford Old Guard. He also was involved in the Senior Olympics and Volunteered his spare time as an aid in Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck. Lastly, he was a skilled mason and a diehard Giants fan.
Scotty is survived by his adored wife of 59 years Theresa ( nee Gallagher) his six children, Kim Papenberg and husband Bill, Cheryl Mackie, Carol Donahoe and husband Bill, Randall Mackie Jr., Andrew and Adele Garner and her late husband George. Loving grandfather to Billy and wife Catherine, Andrew, Anthony, Stephanie, Stephen and Joseph. Dear brother to Florence Duncan. Funeral Wednesday 8:30am from the Collins Calhoun Funeral Home 19 Lincoln Ave. Rutherford followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary, Rutherford. Family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9pm. \
