Obituary for Richard Jerome Kennedy
Richard J. Kennedy 88, of Largo, Florida passed peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at home with his close friend and caretaker Janelle by his side.
Richard was a lifelong resident of Rutherford and only recently moved to Largo, Florida.
As a young man Richie graduated from Rutherford High and then attended the University of Vermont and was a member of Phi Delta Theta. Later, he joined the US Army in 1956 rising to a rank of E-4 during the Korean Conflict and later called back again during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Richie was an advertising executive for 34 years with the highly ranked worldwide advertising agency, DDB Needham. He also held a close relationship with the Grace Episcopal in Rutherford.
When Richie was younger, he enjoyed playing Golf a few times a week. He was a huge Philadelphia Eagles Fan, holding season tickets for 40 years. As an avid football fan, he attended West Point and FDU and Seton Hall University football games on a regular basis.
Richie’s other passion was his Tulips, he took great pride in having the most beautiful and recognized tulips on the block in Rutherford!
He is predeceased by his parents George and Edna Kennedy, his brother Robert.
Richie will be missed by his “other family”; his devoted friends and neighbors who always treated him like family.
