Robert Mcevoy Slater
Robert McEvoy Slater, 88 of Rutherford, died on March 16, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Gloria nee Coglianese, two daughters and their spouses, Marianne and Joseph Branda of Ramsey and Kristen and Michael Davis of Rutherford, two sons and their spouses, Anthony and Sharon Slater of Nutley and David and Cecelia Slater of Arlington, VA, his brother Fr. Dennis Slater, sister Connie Gartland and six loving grandchildren, Kyle, Matthew, Sarah, Natalie, Christopher and Jillian. Robert served in the European Theater during WWII. A graduate of Syracuse University, he majored in English and journalism. He is a former newspaper reporter and associate editor with McGraw Hill Publishing Company. The majority of his professional career was spent working in public relations in NYC. He published numerous articles on healthcare and was also a published author of fiction. He served on the boards of two national healthcare foundations and was for a number of years a trustee of the Rutherford Library Board. Funeral on Friday 9:00am with a 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy at St. Joseph Parish, East Rutherford. Cremation: Private Friends will be received on Thursday 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Collins Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
