Obituary for Rosemary M. Bode

Rosemary Margaret Bode, 100, of Old Bridge, formerly of Rutherford, passed away after a brief illness Monday, January 29, 2024. Daughter of the late William and Pauline (nee Eckhardt) Coniry. Rosemary was close to turning 101 this March.   When Rosemary was young, she worked for Westinghouse during WW11.

Rosemary and her husband Paul owned and operated the well-known restaurant, “Otts Spot” in East Rutherford. The name of the restaurant was from Paul’s father Otto, where it all started and continued for decades until Rosemary’s husband Paul retired in 1980. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her meticulous home on Darwin Ave.  Her final job was a Nanny for family and friends for 22 years.

Rosemary loved to go bowling and enjoyed it with friends, well into her 80’s.  She played a great game of golf too, and just loved to cook. Her specialty was Chicken Marsala and Chicken Devine. She drove a Toyota up until a few years ago. She won her Toyota due to her financial generosity to save cats and kittens, a no-kill and rescue organization started by Beth Stern, the wife of the Howard Stern in Long Island. She was passionate about her furry friends. As a thank you she was given the Toyota which she was so proud of. When it was finally time to give it up, it was difficult for her.  Rosemary was a Parishioner of The Church of Saint Mary in Rutherford and a faithful Catholic. For the last 12 years Rosemary had resided with her son Paul and daughter-in-law Linda in their home in Old Bridge NJ. She truly cherished the time she spent with their friends and families. While there she also volunteered for the local food bank.

Rosemary is predeceased by her husband Paul (1990). She is survived by her devoted son Paul and his wife Linda, her loving grandson Kenneth and granddaughter Kaitlin, nieces Gale Stolarz and husband Bob and Beverly Bode. She is predeceased by her sister Doris Southerton in Florida and her cousin Gerald Hubsmith.
