Obituary for Ruth B Simpson

Ruth Simpson age 94 of Rutherford passed Monday March 15th at her home. Born in 1927, in College Point, NY to her loving parents, Gertrude (Coons) and Clement Belyea. They relocated to Rutherford, NJ in 1942, where Ruth graduated from Rutherford High School in 1944.

Ruth went on to attend the University of New Hampshire, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology and a Master’s Degree in Bacteriology. There she was a very active member in the Kappa Delta Sorority and kept in touch with her sorority sisters throughout the years. While attending UNH, she met her late husband, John E. Simpson. They married and moved back to Rutherford where they lived happily together for the rest of their lives, with John predeceasing her in 2008.

Ruth had a full and impressive career. She started her career by teaching at Fairleigh Dickenson University (Rutherford). She then worked at Lederle Laboratories, Warner Lambert and eventually retired from Becton Dickinson and Company (BD).

Ruth was active in the community. She joined the Rutherford Congregational Church in 1942 and with her love for music enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was also an active member in the Order of Eastern Star. Her accomplishments there include; Grand Soloist, Worthy District Deputy, Grand Representative and Worthy Matron of the Rutherford Chapter several times. Ruth also volunteered her time by driving for Star Fish in Rutherford for many years.

Even with all of her accomplishments and activities, Ruth always had time to enjoy with her family. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family:
Her Daughters; Nancy MacLean and late husband Brian, Carol Simpson Kalb and husband Neil, Mary Ellen Penna and husband Paul. Her seven grandchildren; Tammy (MacLean) Ciminesi and husband Steve, Jeffrey MacLean and wife Alexandra, Jonathan Kalb and wife Lauryn, Andrew Kalb, Michelle Penna, Kelly (Penna) Lawson and husband Bobby, Amy (Penna) Hornung and husband Mike. And her six great grandchildren; Aiden and Laura Ciminesi, Fitz, Duke, and Stella Rose MacLean, and Emily Lawson

Family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford. Funeral Monday 10:00am Service at the Congregational Church, Rutherford. Interment Private.
