Obituary for Sister Doris Mical, CSJP

Sister Doris Mical, formerly known as Sister M. Marina, (82), of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, died peacefully at St. Michael Villa on July 3, 2021. She was born on July 20, 1938 in Paterson, New Jersey, the first child of the late William and Frances (Everson) McAuliffe.

At the age of 18 she became a Postulant with the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in Englewood Cliffs, on September 12, 1956, a Novice on July 2, 1957 and pronounced Final Vows there on August 22, 1965. She left the order in 1971. She married, had three sons of which one died at birth, and after marriage, she obtained an annulment. After her boys were grown, she renewed her vows on May 5, 1995 with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace.

Sister Doris graduated from: Caldwell University with a B.S. in English; Neumann College, Aston, PA with a MS in Psychology/Counselling; and the University of Delaware for additional clinical psychology courses. In May 2001, she received her Master Certification in Spiritual Direction.

Sister Doris taught at: St. Anne’s E.S., Fair Lawn, NJ, St. Joseph’s E.S, Medford, NJ; St. Margaret E.S, Little Ferry, NJ; Most Holy Name E.S., Garfield, NJ; and St. Mary E.S., Salem, NJ. She also taught High School English, French and Religion as well as College English and Writing Skills classes.

She became a Director of Religious Education for Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Wilmington, DE where she planned and coordinated religious education programs for parish schools, CCD, and adult education, supervised and evaluated religion teachers, and taught catechetical courses for the Wilmington Diocesan Religious Education Office.

Sister Doris then did counseling at Tressler Lutheran Counseling Services, Wilmington DE; Psychotherapist at Wilmington Psychological Services, Wilimington, DE and Feminist Therapist Associates, Wilmington, DE, Private Practice, Pastoral Counseling and Spiritual Direction. She was appointed as Congregation Novice Director for one year in 2006 and worked at Peace Care St. Ann’s in Jersey City, NJ. Sister then retired to St. Michael Villa.

Sister Doris was pre-deceased by her son, Sean Mical, sister, Mrs. Frances Meyer, and brother, William McAuliffe. She is survived by her sons, Scott Mical and his wife, Jessica, and Joseph Mical and his wife, Jennifer, grandchildren, Allyson, Caitlyn, Makenzie, and Jayden, sister, Mrs. Arlene Riggio, and her brother, Kevin McAuliffe.

A combined Memorial Service and Liturgy of Christian burial for Sister Doris will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Villa Chapel, 399 Hudson Terrace, Englewood Cliffs, NJ.
