Life Story for Sr. Ann Taylor, CSJP

Sister Ann, formerly known as Sr. Helen Maureen, (90), of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, died peacefully at St. Michael Villa on June 29, 2022. She was born on December 2, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Charles Howard and Mildred Theresa (Bonnert) Taylor.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace on September 8, 1951 and pronounced Final Vows on August 22, 1956.

Sister Ann began teaching in various Catholic Schools in New Jersey including St. Josephs in Medford, Corpus Christi in South River, St. Elizabeth’s in Wyckoff, and St. Luke’s High School in Hohokus.

Sister Ann then went to Holy Name Nursing School in Teaneck where she became an RN in 1959, earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing at the California State College in Los Angeles, and her master’s in health administration at St. Louis University.

Sister Ann served as a Nursing Supervisor at the Phillips Memorial Hospital in Bukidnon, Philippines, Staff Nurse and Director of Personnel at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck and Vice President of Professional Services at St. James Hospital in Newark, NJ.

In 1983, Sister Ann became the Province Leader for St. Joseph Province in Englewood Cliffs where she served until 1988. She then became the Executive Director of the York Street Project in Jersey City. In 1997 she served as Administrator of St. Joseph’s Home for the Blind/Peace Care St. Joseph’s in Jersey City until 2007. She then served as Congregation Archivist before retiring at St. Michael Villa in 2016.

Sr. Ann is survived by her cousin, Joyce Layne and her second cousin, John Taylor.

A combined Wake Service and Liturgy of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, July 5th at 10:15 a.m. at St. Michael Villa in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
