Obituary for Sr. Elizabeth Ann Galvin, CSJP


Sr. Elizabeth Ann Galvin, CSJP aka Mary Ann, 85, of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, died peacefully at St. Michael Villa on May 25, 2017. She was born on August 11,1931 in Bronx, NY to the late Matthew Galvin and Nora O’Donnell Galvin.

Sister Elizabeth Ann entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace at St. Michael Villa Novitiate on July 31, 1949, and pronounced Final Vows on August 22, 1955.

Sr. Elizabeth Ann was three times a graduate of Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ with a B.S. in Education, an M.A. in Reading and an M.A. in Learning Disabilities/Teacher Consultant; and a graduate of Fordham University, Bronx, NY with an M.S. in Religious Education. Sister also completed courses in Theology, Hospice Care, a Bereavement Program, and Family Life Programs. Sr. Elizabeth Ann taught at St. Luke’s E.S. twice, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ; Our Lady of Peace E.S., Fords, NJ; St. Margaret’s E.S., Little Ferry, NJ; Corpus Christi E.S., South River, NJ; St. Anne’s E.S., Fair Lawn, NJ; Immaculate Heart Academy, Washington Twp., NJ; Paramus Catholic Girls H.S., Paramus, NJ; and was Principal and Teacher at St. Joseph’s E.S., Medford, NJ. Sister was also an Instructor of Religious Education in St. Elizabeth Parish, Wyckoff, NJ; and served in various other positions in Bergen County Special Services; and Parishes.

Sister is survived by her brother, Michael Galvin, her sister, Elizabeth Moloney, and several nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 31 from 2 PM to 3 PM at St. Michael Villa, 399 Hudson Terrace, Englewood Cliffs, NJ., and following from 4 PM – 7 PM at St. Luke’s RC Church, 340 N. Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Luke’s RC Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, 399 Hudson Terrace, Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632-2806.
