Obituary for Vincent Joseph Alati

Vincent J. Alati of Rutherford, NJ passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the age of 76. He died following an extensive health battle with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, and after a recent hospitalization that resulted from contracting the COVID-19 virus.

Vincent was born in the Bronx, NY on September 18, 1945, to Irene and Joseph Alati. He lived in the Bronx where he was raised and shaped into the tough-minded, warm hearted, and sensitive adult he would become. He had a distinguished career working as one of the youngest executives at Columbia Pictures and then as a marketing consultant in the entertainment business. For over thirty years, and up until his early 70s, Vincent’s passion for his work was underscored by his global travels, which helped him expand how he was able to connect companies with entertainment products to manufacturers and distributors. He enjoyed the art of making a deal and was known for his direct, no-nonsense, and knowledgeable approach. In the late 1990s, Vincent moved to Barcelona, Spain where he made a life professionally and personally for over 25 years and raised his two youngest sons.

Vincent had recently moved back to Rutherford, NJ in late October 2021 to be closer to his oldest son, his family, and other relatives and friends. During the 3+ months before his passing, he had made a home for himself down the block from the town library. He began to re-establish relationships with older friends and family while forging new relationships due to his upfront nature, blunt humor, and interest in learning about others and their experiences.

Vincent was an avid reader and enjoyed historical works and biographies that helped him expand his cultural knowledge. He enjoyed writing chapters about his life experiences within the last 10 years, and was also known to be an engaged stamp collector who built a large collection of stamp albums with rare stamps. A frequent international traveler, Vincent often ventured to many different countries and enjoyed regaling family and friends with his tales.

Vincent was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his four sons Sergio, Josef, Marc, and Nicholas, his sisters April, Amelia and Joann, his grandchildren Julia and James, and many extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be held at Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home on Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 3:30-5:00pm. Family and friends are invited to a catered repast at the 18th amendment at Mason’s Cellar directly afterward.
The Alati family is kindly requesting masks for the Service and following the Service.
